Hitting the roads with your entire wolfpack is a fun and great way to explore new destinations and create an unbreakable bond with your entire family. But considering the ongoing conditions, embarking on a road trip with your entire family isn’t a wise choice.
As per the CDC, traveling can be dangerous as of now, considering there’s a high chance of contracting the pandemic-virus infection.
Nevertheless, whenever the situation improves, you might want to hit the roads and indulge in some much-needed bonding time.
As such, being a parent, it might be a good idea to discover some unusual car games before embarking on a beautiful journey. In-car games not only cheer the kids up, but also make them feel more involved and closer to nature.
In a recent discussion, we asked some parents about their favorite car games and this is what they said.
#1 – Practicing the alphabet with fun
For Caitlin Devan, 35, and her husband, the alphabet is the most reliable game they indulge in to entertain their kids while on a road trip. Let’s see how it goes: beginning at letter A, each member in the car has to name an animal with the alphabet they end up with.
For instance, starting in the alphabetical order, ape, ant, alligator and then move to letter B and so on. If the ride is taking even longer than expected, you are free to introduce more variations like vegetables, fruits, and city names.
Games like these are not only great for passing the time, but they also improve knowledge. The kids get to use their brains rather than relying on technology to find answers. Plus, you can play it anytime, and it’s super fun.
#2 – Test your excellence in trivia
Marisa Iallonardo, mother of a six and a three-year-old, reveals her family is crazy about playing trivia on a family road trip. They start by choosing a general category that’s familiar to the kids and is age-appropriate.
Next, the parents take turns, asking questions about a specific subject. It can either be multiple choice questions or just the answer itself, the kids absolutely love it, Marisa shares in discussion with SELF.
It’s a great choice of game, considering everyone gets to learn something new, and watching your kids bond over a game brings so much joy to parents’ faces.
#3 – Drawing on the go
Chrissy Marie Serrano, 37, loves indulging her kids in a creative game where every member gets a fresh notepad in preparation for the ride. She insists on picking up some cute and quirky prints for every member, as it adds more fun and excitement. As the trip starts, they exchange their diaries and start drawing each other’s faces, except her husband as he has to drive.
You can draw anything, be it a silly picture or a perfect portrait, Chrissy shares. The best part of the game is when you exchange your notebooks and get to look at those drawings, you get to ponder over what you look like from the other person’s eyes. Isn’t that great?
